Angry Birds Trilogy Breaking Onto New Platforms

Angry Birds, one of the top most downloaded titles on both the Apple Store and Google Play is to be debuting on new platforms soon by Activison.

Coming to the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo 3DS, the game will contain Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, making up a trilogy set named Angry Birds Trilogy.
Missing though is the new Angry Birds Space… I would have liked to have seen a quadrilogy…

Angry Birds, though I’m sure you’ve seen or at least heard about it before, involves flinging these special super powered wingless birds (each with their own abilities) using a sling shot at the enemy… The enemy of course being stylised green pig heads, some with mustaches, helmets and crowns. Who wouldn’t have made that connection? They have stolen the birds eggs and they want them back!

The game was debuted back on the Apple Store in December 2009 around when the Swine Flu Epidemic was in full force, which is actually where the idea of using pigs as enemies spouted from. It has been downloaded over 1 billion times across all platforms since its initial launch.

The levels require you to learn how to use each bird to their advantage, how much power to use to fling the birds, and at what trajectory, to hit the pigs. The pigs are usually protected by some form of barrier or housed in ice/wooden structures (especially as the levels progress).
You can use this extra ‘protection’ for the pigs though against them, as these blocks cause serious damage, killing them if fallen on.

As I mentioned, each bird offers a different ability, wheather with an extra tap after initating flight, they fly faster, or for example explode into many smaller birds, or simply explode causing substantial damage.
Your lives are based on how many birds you have left to sling shot. If you manage to kill all the pigs before you use up all your lives, you gain extra points, with the max 3 stars awarded for the best scores.
This can become quite addictive, as you aim for 3 stars on each level.

There are tonnes of levels in what are known as chapters, and as you complete a level, you unlock the next.
If however you fail to kill all the enemy pigs, you simply restart from that level, and try again.

The game has been so popular, it has been referenced in media such as TV, magazines, books, and even has a cuddly toy collection, etc.

Each game for each platform will utilise the strengths of each, whilst also including HD visuals, so will not be a straight up port of the originals.
The Playstation 3 version will use the Move tech, the Xbox 360, the Kinect, and the Nintendo 3DS, the 3D and Streetpass functions.

“With Angry Birds Trilogy, every version supports the unique experience tailor-made for the platform. In addition to normal gamepad controls, with Xbox 360 we support Kinect for easy family-friendly game play. We’re seeing that resonate strongly especially with the younger audience. With PS3 you can play also with the Move controller. On Nintendo 3DS we’re supporting Stereoscopic 3D and Streetpass,” said Petri Järvilehto, Executive Vice President, Rovio Entertainment Ltd. “We are working hard to ensure that no matter what platform you choose to play on, you will always get the best possible game play experience.”

Angry Birds Trilogy is set to fly in on Q4 of 2012.
