Strap on your green tunic and find your wallet of rupees because a new Legend of Zelda game is coming to the 3DS. (The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past 2? )
The wonderful minds of Nintendo have managed to create what looks to be another fantastic Zelda game. The game does not have a current title but let’s just call it The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past 2. Reggie Fils-Aime, President and chief operating officer of Nintendo America, released a short video clip showcasing the game. He says it is based in the world of A Link to the Past but not a complete remake. The game is set to feature brand new dungeons with new monsters and all new game mechanics.
The original The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was released in 1992 for the SNES. Now, nearly 20 years later developers are working on the new game. Game designers hope to provide all of the original fun and intriguing elements of the original game and put them all into this new one plus a bit more. The new release will upgrade the old 2D graphics to 3D to take advantage of all new elements such as; height and volume. For instance when Link reaches a certain area where he appears trapped, there may be a way to jump to a higher ledge that using the three dimensional display.
Reggie also says the dungeons will focus more on height as Link makes his way upward. Using jump pads Link will be able to reach a higher platform that opens up an all new area of the dungeon.
A brand new game mechanic allows Link to turn into a drawing becoming one with the wall. The camera shifts from a top down view to 2D side scroller once triggered. This allows him to traverse areas otherwise unreachable and solve puzzles in a Paper Mario manor.
This game is most defiantly on my wish list. I grew up playing A Link to the Past and loved every second of it. Having them release a brand new game set in the same universe is speaking to my inner fanboy. I am ready to hand over my rupees to get this game on my 3DS.
A 3D video of the new 3DS Zelda game is available to download on the Nintendo 3DS eShop so you can check it out in all its glory.
The brand new Zelda game set in A Link to the Past world will be launching to stores this holiday season.
