4 in a 3d row.
I think a good puzzle game relies on some kind of gimmick to make it stand out from other puzzle games. Several gamers, me included, love Valve’s puzzle game Portal, but it has a great gimmick of using portals to each puzzle. Other puzzle games like Connect 4 might not have a gimmick to make it stand out from other puzzle games like Angry Birds or even Portal. However, Neonfive Studio seems interested in cramming a 3D gimmick into Connect 4. Neonfive Studio intend to release 4 In a 3D Row to every iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Mac, and Android.
The gimmick to 4 In a 3D Row is playing Connect 4 in 3D – and that’s pretty much it. In the trailer for 4 In a 3D Row you can see that there are four boards instead of the single one to vanilla Connect 4. Players can rotate and look at the four boards at different angles, and make a connection through exploiting the Z-axis. “4 In a 3D Row is not a classic Connect 4 game, it offers a brand new gameplay twist,” claims Neonfive Studio, stating that the players will have to think in the third dimension if they want to succeed.
There will also be leaderboards and achievements, which seems to be connected to a “leveling system.” The game will unlock several levels of difficulty, presumably as you rack up more XP so you can “earn more points” for something. Beyond that, the game will also have a cloud-save feature where your score and XP could be transferred over from one device (such as a Mac) to another (an Android). Multiplayer works similarly by letting players connect gems from different platforms. So you could try outsmarting your friend on an Android while they are playing at home on their Macintosh.
4 In a 3D Row will be released July 19th, 2012 to iOS devices, Macintosh and Android.
Einfo Games said in their 4 IN A 3D ROW Review “Overall you will get a great gaming experience for the price you are willing to fork over. “
