By now you’ve probably read the reviews on Resident Evil 6, were utterly appalled by the scores, and went back to playing Angry Birds on your phone. While Resident Evil 6 has some major flaws, i.e. its cover system (and the need for one in a RE game), there are little gems of brilliance that gamers should definitely experience. So here they are, the top 5 reasons you should give Resident Evil 6 a chance.
5) It’s Freakin’ Huge!
Say what you will about the quality, the quantity is just massive. There are four intertwining campaigns that could easily be standalone games themselves, several online modes, and DLC to boot. Resident Evil 6 is freakin’ huge and it looks good too!
4) No Hope Difficulty
Some reviewers stated the game was way too easy. Bull$@#*. No hope difficulty is called that for a reason. It’s fun, ridiculously challenging, and ultimately satisfying once you’ve completed a section.
3) Review Bias
I think it’s safe to say that we Resident Evil fans were really hoping for a “return to roots” approach with Resident Evil 6. When the game went in the opposite direction I think fans and reviewers alike cried foul. Statements like “it’s not Resident Evil!” and “Survival Horror is dead!” littered the internet. While I couldn’t agree with you more, it does not mean Resident Evil 6 deserves a one star review.
2) Bunch of Chunks
I said it in my demo impressions and I’ll say it again; blasting off chunks of enemies is so satisfying. Nothing else out there lets you skim off the top part of a zombie’s head in such gory detail. We call it “giving them a haircut.”
And the number one reason is…
1) Co-op with a Friend is a Blast
I understand that having a Co-Op feature really takes away from the scare factor, but I have to admit playing with a friend is just great. Up the challenge by playing on No Hope difficulty, and you and your buddy will have hours of monster mashing mayhem.
In conclusion, it seems that Capcom learned a valuable lesson with Resident Evil 6. While trying to appeal to the mass audience they alienated their core player base and ultimately lost sales. I’ll just come out and say it, Call of Duty Players want Call of Duty, not Resident Evil substitutions. Hopefully the takeaway for Capcom is the need to return to its roots for future titles in the series. What better way to do this than with a Resident Evil 2 Reboot?
