Here’s a surprise for Assassins Creed fans! Ubisoft and New Regency announce that they are going to be working together to produce an upcoming Assassin’s Creed film.
With all the videogame activity from the Assassins Creed series that has come out in the past few years, it’s hard to tell if they will start a new chapter in the franchise or have a movie about Desmond’s story. Personally, I think it would be an amazing idea to have the movie based on new characters and let the movie lead into the next Assassin’s Creed videogame that is bound to be coming out after Assassin’s Creed 3.
Well here’s some more information about the film. Ubisoft’s own film and television aspect of the company, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, will be working with New Regency to create a top quality film based on the Assassin’s Creed series. The development of the screenplay has already begun and is being fast tracked as the creative pieces all come together. Ubisoft is in control of key elements of the movie’s direction and plot while financial details of the deal have not been revealed.
Jean-Julien Baronet, chief executive officer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures said,” Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures.” She also included that, “Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassins Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.”
The partnership with New Regency came with the attaching of actor, Michael Fassbender to the Assassin’s Creed movie. Brad Weston, president and chief executive officer of New Regency said,” We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to Assassin’s Creed, which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years.”
Ubisoft Motion Pictures was created in January 2011 to expand Ubisoft’s video game brands by creating film, television, and web series for them.
