First Trailer for Elder Scrolls Online

Zenimax Online gave players a glimpse of what’s to come in The Elder Scrolls Online. The development team behind the series’ foray into uncharted MMO territory shows players new details for the franchise. The video shows how The Elder Scrolls Online will fit into the lore of the world overall, which is quite a task when considering how complex the backstory is. This game has got lore up the wazoo.

It is easy to skim over it and just go through killing people or picking things up, but when players stop and look into the culture of the world they have access to, they might begin to realize how much time was spent adding these things just so that players could idly skim through them.

There are books and detailed descriptions all over the place that talk about the creation of the world, the religions, the politics, and the wars. There are even popular fictional titles within this fictional universe. The Elder Scrolls Online will take place 1000 years before Skyrim, so players who have kept up on their Elder Scrolls content will find these things familiar. For the other 95% of players, these things will be new and surprising, so no spoilers!

From the trailer, the settings, characters, and enemies look great. My only problem with it is the prevalence of giant spiders. Giant spiders seem to make an appearance in a lot of fantasy games and I don’t get that. Well, I guess I do. They are the most terrifying creatures in all of creation. It’s what happens when you take all of the gross, evil, and ugly in the world and try to put it into one being. I’m a bit of an arachnophobe, if you can’t tell.
