Behind The Scenes Of Black Ops 2 “Surprise”

I know you’re all dying to know about the creative process behind the Black Ops 2 trailer, “Surprise.” Shut up, you totally want to know the details behind an advertisement for a video game. It’s this sort of stuff that makes me excited to wake up in the morning. Well, this and the promise of leftovers from Thanksgiving. Food is awesome.

Fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be happy to know where the money they spent on the title usually goes. It appears that about 10% of it goes towards the game and the rest of it goes towards the marketing campaign. I like COD, don’t get me wrong, but not much has changed in the series since, ever. If someone has a good formula and they’re making a lot of money off of it, I suppose the next best thing to spend money on is putting Robert Downey Jr’s lovely mug on your advertising. He’s just so lovable. It’s a scientifically proven fact. Like the sky being blue or shooters and zombies being tired and overdone in every form of media.

The best part of the “Surprise” behind the scenes video is when Guy Ritchie describes why he took on this project and manages to avoid saying the phrase, “metric tons of money.” Good on you, bud. Clearly, a lot of people worked on this commercial, which is both admirable and horrifying when you consider the fact that “Surprise” was about a minute long. Feast your eyes on the bluescreens and explosions and horses and marvel at the wonders of filmmaking in the modern age. What a world.
