Allods Online, the colourful and charming free-to-play 3D fantasy MMORPG from developer Mail Ru Games and publisher Gpotato, has received a pretty significant update.
Gala Networks, the European distributor of the game, announced the Path to Victory update on June 5. The update includes a number of fixes to the global PvP Dominion game mode that is exclusive to players who have reached the level 55 threshold, as well a significant wealth of other changes.
According to the release notes, the patch will “allow for better organized and coordinated military campaigns, make guild battles more competitive, and introduce a new, fair and balanced matchmaking system.”
The guild-versus-guild system in Dominion will see a change in how battles are conducted. Guilds now will be able to set a specific battle time so that they are able to better coordinate their troops. Furthermore, the addition of a tournament-based league will level the playing field, while a new match-making system will allow guilds of similar skill and power levels to compete against each other for bragging rights.
Content generated by users will also see an interesting competitive dynamic. Now, players who build their own personal allod (property in the middle ages) will be able to protect their valuables inside customizable mazes. User generated dungeons also will appear in a league table where players can see how many have tried to defeat the allod and failed, while players who defeat other dungeons can step up and challenge more difficult dungeons “up to three times a week.”
Other additions and improvements include: increased reward levels, bigger dominion maps, clearer capture points (delineated by flags and icons), new strategies, a new stage called “The Absolute,” and the new magic carpet mount. A new tradeskill in the Weaponsmith, who will be able to craft weapons, relics, and gems, also has been added. That and
Also of note, Gpotato has added a bonus online event called “Not A Day Without A Gift.” Everyday, after June 5, players who log-in will be rewarded with in-game prizes, “including exclusive, never before seen costumes and a brand new wolf mount.”
Allods Online is non-subscription based game, but relies on in-game market micro-transactions system for its revenue. Many players have complained about the game just being another “pay to win,” as they say that powerful items can be bought instead of earning through levelling and “grinding” in the game.
Allods Online is distributed throughout Europe in English, German, Polish, and French.
