Mad Catz announces Mojo console will retail for £219 / $249
Mad Catz has confirmed the launch details and price for its Mojo Android microconsole. Mad Catz announces mojo consle will be released in the US and UK on December 10, priced at £219.99 and €249.99.
This is more than twice the cost of its closest competitor the Ouya, but Mad Catz claims the console offers enough advantages to justify the extra expense. The system packs a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor, 16GB internal storage and 2GB RAM. By comparison, Ouya‘s console features a 1.7GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 8GB internal storage and 1GB RAM.
In a clear reference to Ouya‘s insistence on users buying games from its own store, Mad Catz claims Mojo. has “no walled garden and no set store to buy from”. The console comes with the Google Play and Nvidia TegraZone apps pre-installed, and is registered as a standard Android device (running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean). A nice feature for Gamers who have already purchased numerous apps on these stores can simply log on with their existing details and re-download them without the need for a second purchase.
However the Mojo console does lack a touch screen, meaning that many games won’t be natively compatible, but the micro-console supports mouse control and can attempt to control a mouse cursor with its analogue sticks.
So will you be purchasing the Mojo Andriod microconsole? and do you feel madcatz have justified the reasoning for the much greater price tag? and how will this compare against its competitor Ouya. Only time can tell when the console is finally released.
