Audio Software FMOD Studio 1.2 Released

FMOD Studio 1.2 to come with plug-ins from both Audiogaming and McDSP.

Firelight Technologies have announced the release of FMOD Studio 1.2, an update on a popular program for producing game audio and soundtracks. The new release adds two particularly exciting features courtesy of plug-ins from partners Audiogaming and McDSP, which gives users the chance to add all-new features and dynamics to their compositions.

Audioweather, contributed by Audiogaming, focusses on producing realistic outdoor sound environments that suck the player into the atmosphere. The plug-in features pre-set options to add effects from delicate raindrops falling into a lake, all the way up to huge mountain-top winds and gales. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the new plug-in is the option to create massively dynamic sound environments that respond to what’s going on in the game. For example, the software features Wind and Rain automation, adding the corresponding sound effects based on the changing environment of the game, without any extra work for the composer.

McDSP have contributed their ML1 precision mastering limiter, which allows users to ensure that their pieces have punch and emphasis, without being unruly and unreserved, meaning that the final experience is a rounded sound environment.

The new additions to the FMOD Studio software are sure to make it even easier for users to create the immersive and effective audios that a good game really needs. Gino Bollaert, a sound engineer for FMOD Studio, had high hopes and expectations for what studios would be able to do with the software:

“We’ve completely opened up our audio framework so people can create and use plug-ins in their games. I’m really excited to see what game studios will be able to do with our SDK.”

FMOD Studio 1.2, with the plug-ins and features, is available to download right now from the FMOD website completely free!
