Beatbuddy Preview ? That’s right we had the chance to play through the first two levels of the game!
Okay lets get to this then; as the game starts you are put in control of Beatbuddy, a strange creature that is trying to fight back against an army and save his land. While doing so you will have to bounce on bass-drums, get by snare streams, or be the pilot of a Beatbuggy. While these all might sound like things you would expect to take place in any other game, there is a twist to all of it, the whole game is based on rhythm.
Everything moves to the same beat, making a nice song which brings a good pace to the entire game. I was very sceptical about Beatbuddy when I first heard the concept and saw the trailer, but I was very surprised how amazing the game is after I got to play a bit of it.
Beatbuddy is a fun, unique game that I believe is going to impress many people.
What got me though was most definitely how well the music and rhythm was established in the game, it makes for a very great tune when you first enter into a puzzle and can hear all of the items acting together to make it all happen. The puzzles in Beatbuddy are also very fun and challenging, with some taking some planning or thinking to get by. These puzzles consist of you using items, that are also making the rhythm, to get around the obstacles. Just one example of these items is the bass drum, with it providing the bass for the song you will also have to use it to bounce into a barricade to create a new path, or using it to quickly get by some spikes that will quickly injure you if you time it wrong.
You will also be introduced to the Beatbuggy in the game, a vehicle that moves around with the beat, also allowing you to get a boost if you can correctly hit the move button on the second beat of the rhythm. While in Beatbuddy though, you also have to dodge some of the same obstacles you face when swimming, but a new variety of obstacles are also introduced. These obstacles being other ongoing vehicles that are moving to the rhythm, giving you a new hit to your health bar if you fail to dodge them in time.
The graphics also tie in amazingly with the rest of the game, giving it a good feel that goes with the music that is being played. They also look very clean, giving them the ability to live up with other games that have similar graphics. Overall you should be keeping your eye on Beatbuddy, it is a very interesting game that more people should know or be talking about.
With the game being able to create great puzzles, interesting music and rhythm, and great graphics I can honestly say that I did not find anything that would disappoint if you are a fan of the action and puzzle type games. All of this being said with me only playing the first two levels of the game, the only way that it can be anything less than great is if they completely change up how the levels are in the later areas of the game.
With Beatbuddy being released later this year on Steam, being developed Threaks and published by Reverb Publishing, Beatbuddy is a fun, unique game that I believe is going to impress many people.
We will be following this game and look forward to play the full title.
