BF3 maps transitioning to BF4 in ‘Second Assault’

DICE confirms Battlefield 4’s first DLC pack, ‘Second Assault’ are revised Battlefield 3 classics.

The Second Assault expansion pack will provide updated versions of the “fan favorite” Battlefield 3 maps: Operation Firestorm, Operation Metro, Caspian Border and Gulf of Oman. Each will be modified under Frostbite 3 to reach modern technical expectations. DICE claims Second Assault will be “enhanced to include new multiplayer features from Battlefield 4.”

EA has confirmed that Second Assault will be “available at launch first on Xbox One”, which hits stores on November 22, as part of a timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Release dates for PlayStation and PC versions remain ambiguous. Previously promised, Microsoft confirmed during a streamed Battlefield 4 Xbox Live event as well of the temporary exclusivity.

Second Assault is one of five Battlefield 4 expansions due for release by the summer of 2014. They can be pre-purchased as part of the £39.99/$49.99 Battlefield Premium subscription offering. The other four expansions are titled China Rising, Naval Strike, Dragon’s Teeth and Final Stand.

Current-generation console and PC versions of BF4 are out now. PS4 and Xbox One versions will arrive alongside next-gen consoles later this month.

I’ve developed an absolute disinterest to “updated maps” from previous games to modern titles. I feel a dependency has grown on rehashes of classics, rather than creating entirely new maps to be explored and cause debauchery in. The acceptance is diminishing in my eyes. How do you all feel? Will you wait patiently with me for unique maps?
