A PlayStation Exec has announced that multi-platform publishing is a huge part of a developers success.
Adam Boyes, the VP of publisher and developer relations for Sony Computer Entertainment, has said that console exclusive games are purely for bragging rights and nothing else.
Adam spoke during a keynote speech at this years IndieCade and said that although exclusives are good for boosting hardware sales, but publishing games to a single platform serves no real purpose or benefit in the long run.
Boyes said “Right now, exclusives are just a way for console makers to brag louder, nobody gains from exclusivity in perpetuity.
Sony currently owns 13 first party studios, including Naughty Do and Polyphony, who continue create exclusive content for PlayStation devices.They have also negotiated a deal with indie studio Jonathon Blow’s Number None to provide their games exclusively on the PlayStation 4 before they are released on the Xbox One.
Sony has always encouraged. multi-platform publishing. Boyes has suggested that it is the key to the success of a developer.
” Developers now have the option to deliver on a huge number of platforms”.

Boyes made an appearance on stage at Sony’s E3 2013 conference to promote their efforts to connect with indie developers. He also showed off a number of games that making their debuts on the PS4. Although the games will be appearing on the PS4 first, they are either also already available on the PC or are going to be released on the PC and Xbox One.
The games due to be released include Transistor, the new game from Supergiant Games, Don’t Starve from Klei Entertainments, Tribute Games’ Mercenary Kings and Octodad: Dadliest Catch made by Young Horses, a studio created from graduates of DePaul University and Switchblade Monkey’s Secret Ponchos.
Sony has confirmed a PS4 release date of November the 15th in the US and November the 29th in Europe. The console will be made available in 32 countries and will be set at a bargain price of £349/€399/$399.
