Fans of tanks, massive destruction, and competitiveness get ready to battle across the internet with World of Tanks.
The strategy game development team behind World of Tanks, Wargaming, announced their creation of Wargaming.net League. Wargaming hopes to run alongside the great eSports games of now and bring in new competitive players, fans, and professional eSports gamers.
Scheduled to launch the first quarter of the year, Wargaming plans on creating traditional competitive game play that features tournaments and playoffs. With the grand prize winner receiving $2.5 million in prizes. I have never been a pro gamer but I am highly considering getting into it.
Wargaming Global eSports Director Jonghyuk Baak had this to say on competitive gaming.
“The scale and popularity of competitive gaming has been skyrocketing over the last couple of years, and we have now reached the point where we can focus significant effort on advancing World of Tanks on to the global eSports scene,Wargaming.net League is a groundbreaking step in our quest to bring the game’s eSports potential into the international spotlight.”
eSports has really been kicking off within these past few years and find the decision by Wargaming to create a new competitive experience to be a good one. Andrei Yarantsau, VP of Global Operations at Wargaming, believes that not only is this move good for competitive gamers but also for spectators.
“Running our own eSports league allows us to truly focus on making World of Tanks not only a compelling and challenging eSports discipline, but also one that’s incredibly entertaining for spectators,Now we have a sustainable tool to broaden our global eSports involvement in an unprecedented way: stimulate the growth of the competitive community, organize bigger and better tournaments with larger prize pools than ever, and provide our best pro gamers with completely viable career opportunities.”
World of Tanks has gathered a lot of competitive gaming fuel since its first appearance at last years eSports WCG 2012 Grand Finals in Kunshan, China. So grab your favorite tank and get to training, things aren’t going to blow themselves up.
