How did SNK think that they could get away with terminating a contract with Tommo, Inc.?
FunStock.co.uk earlier today announced that they will be able to continue to sell and fully support the entire line of NeoGeoX Gold product line despite the recent arguments between Tommo, Inc. and a press release on SNK PLAYMORE USA Corp website in the last few weeks.
The press release on SNK PLAYMORE USA Corp website that caused all this happened when SNK tried to terminate the NeoGeoX Gold license despite the fact that the handheld had barely been out for a year. They also wanted Tommo, Inc. to stop the selling and advertising of other SNK products like NeoGeoX Gold arcade sticks.
Tommo, Inc. managed to stop SNK from disbanding the handheld two days after SNK announced the death of it. The reason is that Tommo, Inc. has a contract with SNK to support the handheld till 2016.
To date Tommo, Inc. claim that they have done everything required of them under the licensing agreement with SNK. They also say that they are disappointed with SNK’s sudden and unjustified termination of their contract.
So till 2016 anyway FunStock.co.uk will still be fully supporting the NeoGeoX range. The general manager of FunStock.co.uk Andy Pearson has said that
“The recent release from SNK Playmore USA has stirred the NeoGeo X community and it is really positive to see the amount of people who came forward to show their support for this device. We shall, of course, continue to sell, market and fully support the NeoGeoX product range, and we look forward to the NeoGeoX providing another exciting Christmas for thousands of people”
Jason Cooper the founder of BLAZE who are distributing the NeoGeoX in Europe has also said that
“BLAZE will continue to market and sell all the NeoGeo X Product range and fully support all end users, retailers and distributors in the territories we are responsible for”.
With all of the trouble caused by SNK when they made the announcement I have to ask again, what was SNK thiking when they made that post.
