Fur Fighters Has Arrived On iPad

Do you remember the company Bizarre Creations? You should do.
They are best known I believe for the Project Gotham Racing series on the original Xbox (Metropolis Street Racer on Dreamcast).
They also developed one of the best-selling games on Xbox Live Arcade at the time, Geometry Wars! If you haven’t played that game or its successors, you seriously should.
Activision took over Bizarre Creations back in 2007, but in 2010 stated they were considering closing the studio, and were awaiting buyers, but no one came forward. The studio closed shortly after, but all is not lost…

In the Sega Dreamcast era, they released a game called Fur Fighters, and later on the PS2, a reworked version named Fur Fighters: Viggo.

Fur Fighters if you have never played it (shame on you) was a part shooter/part puzzler. It wasn’t your standard shooter either, as the name suggests something slightly different. You played as 6 furry animals, but don’t let the term furry put you off either, as these animals weren’t at all cuddly.

A fat cat named General Viggo has kidnapped and mutated the Fur Fighters’ Families for his own devilish plans. Playing as 6 possible animals, you must fight back, knocking the fluff (literally) out of the bears sent to destroy you, and mutilate General Viggo.

The game featured 30 challenging levels, and 20 weapons to collect and cause fluff havoc with, with each Fur Fighter having unique special skills.
You could switch between each fighter at any time; for example if you were low on artillery, or you couldn’t complete a part of the level with the one active at the moment. It certainly involved a bit of thinking to get through the levels.

Well… zoom into the future, and a developer team named Muffin Games, set up by some founders of Bizarre Creations are bringing this game to the Apple iPad, and an entirely new generation as a result.
The only difference between the original Dreamcast version, and the Viggo Playstation 2 version was a few updates including cel shaded graphics and some voice acting the original game didn’t contain to bring it up to speed.

This is what was said about the original game:

“A wonderful, whimsical personality radiates from the lavishly detailed characters and surroundings.” – IGN

“Nothing short of Epic” – Spank

“Not only is it full of flashy graphics, great music and loads of action, it’s actually full of wonderfully intuitive fun.” – Dreamcast.net

“Solid characters, cool environments, tight control, and a funny storyline, Fur Fighters comes highly recommended.” – GamePro

“One of the edgiest and most creative platformers on the Dreamcast.” – Sega X

You can pick up the game from the Apple Store.
