The organisers of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2013 have announced new summit talks for its March conference. Topics covered include lectures on the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn web video series, smarter tactical behaviour in Hitman: Absolution and Lichdom, and the BBC’s challenges in building worldwide game brands.
The talks are part of the AI, Localization, and Game Narrative Summits that will take place Monday, March 25th and Tuesday, March 26th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco during the first two days of Games Developers Conference of 2013.
The game narrative summit will include 343 Industries’s Kevin Grace, Frank O’Connor, Kiki Wolfkill, and Matt McCloskey speaking on creating the Halo 4 web series in ‘Bringing the Game to Life – Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn (Postmortem).’
343 Industries are also set to share the challenges of introducing the Halo world via episodic content to newcomers to the series whilst staying true to their fans. Along with building partnerships with Hollywood, 343 Industries will also discuss the creation and marketing of episodic content and how it integrated these episodes into planning and developing Halo 4.
As part of the AI summit, Mika Vehkala of IO Interactive and Matthew Jack of Moon Collider will examine modern shooters and action game agents in ‘Spaces in the Sandbox: Tactical Awareness in Open World Games.’ Both speakers will use examples of Hitman: Absolution, their work developed at Crytek, and Xaviant’s upcoming RPG, Lichdom, to explore two different approaches to processing spatial information, to provide AI acting in believable and tactical ways.
Robert Nashak, the BBC Worldwide executive vice president of Digital Entertainment & Games is also set to share his global strategies for game development based on TV properties in ‘BBC, Cross-Media and Video Games.’ Using case studies for brands such as Top Gear, Nashak will provide insight into what BBC and others want as they seek to build successful games for multiple territories.
The GDC is set to take place March 25th-29th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
