PlayJam have today announced that their upcoming GameStick console will support the full-analog Green Throttle Atlas controller. GameStick is intended to give TV owners access to the “most affordable, open and portable” console ever created. The new console is intended to forever change the amount of TVs used to play games for the better, with the current statistic of a mere 1% considered “crazy” by PlayJam.
GameStick is a tiny console both in terms of price and size, costing a mere $79 and fitting inside its own controller easily. The small size will also enable owners to walk around with the console in their pocket, giving them the opportunity to play all their games on any TV by simply plugging the console into the HDMI slot. In order to encourage innovative developers and cheap prices, the GameStick console will be utilising a completely open operating system based off Android phones.
The GameStick can have up to 4 official Bluetooth controllers connected, but the developers have announced that it will work with any controller with HID, including the aforementioned Green Throttle Atlas Controller. Green Throttle is hopeful that these features will greatly benefit TV gaming, with Charles Huang, CEO of Green Throttle, confident that the console paired with the company’s controller will allow any Android developer to easily “become a ‘console’ developer and bring their game[s] to new audiences of TV gamers”.
GameStick launched on Kickstarter last week, has proven to be a massive success, with over 3 times the $100,000 goal already pledged and one of its stretch goals reached.
