Ghost Recon Online Gets New Maps, Modes, and Gear

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online players have new content to look forward to. Ubisoft has announced the release of patch 0.10.0 for its hit free-to-play online shooter. This patch will bring new weapons, armour, game modes, avatars, a new map, and several game service improvements and fixes.

One of the most significant changes for Ghost Recon players will be the introduction of clan matches. While the clan feature was added back in October 2012, options for clans were somewhat limited. With patch 0.10.0 players will be able to form squads with their clan members, choose maps, and challenge rival clans in various game modes. Game producer Theo Sanders commented on the clan features, stating: “We’re also keeping our promise to the community with the introduction of the Clan Match feature. Fighting alongside your clan mates and friends, challenging another clan; social competition is such an integral part of the GRO experience, and this feature goes a long way towards fueling this experience.”

Speaking of teamwork, this new patch includes “Holdout” mode, which focuses on team tactics and strategies. In this game type, a single capture point is placed in the middle of the map, and both teams have to work together to capture and defend it until the end of the match to win.

To fully take advantage of Holdout, Ubisoft is also putting out the new “Balaklava Sub Pen” map. Based on an actual former Ukrainian submarine facility, this compact new map features a single capture point with multiple strategic methods of approach.

Lastly, Ubisoft will be releasing the Triton Pack alongside patch 0.10.0. This naval-themed pack comes with new helmets, armour, weapons, and the ability to make custom avatars. Ghost Recon Online players who want to take advantage of these perks will have to act fast, as the Triton Pack is only available until the end of January.

*Writer’s Opinion*

Free-to-play games can have their pros and cons. This one looks like it really has its stuff together. I’ve been a fan of Ghost Recon titles since I played the first one back in ’01, and I really enjoy the more tactical and methodical gameplay, especially when it comes to multiplayer. The facts that this title is free and Ubisoft is releasing this new content without having to pay anything extra are right up my alley. Are there any Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online players out there who have an opinion about these new additions? Make sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
