With Black Ops declassified not doing as well as Sony where probably hoping it would all shooter fans with a PS Vita will now have to rest their hopes on Killzone: Mercenary, the latest entry in the PlayStation exclusive Killzone series. Also I should mention that the following trailer was originally released at the end of January although it was recently re-released for some reason.
As you may have guessed from the games title Killzone: Mercenary will have the player play as a cold hearted mercenary who is only interested in earning money instead of a member of the generic ISA so thankfully you will be able to play as a member of the Helghast if you like.
The Killzone: Mercenary Gameplay trailer is rendered completely using the in-game graphics and they look really impressive especially for a handheld and while they have only shown a couple of areas so far they do appear to be varied.
Since for a mercenary completing missions and objective will earn you money and you’ll be able to use that money to buy weapons and ammo and hopefully your weapons choices won’t be limited to which side you’re on but along with that you’ll also be able to unlock perks.
Choosing which weapon you want will obviously change your play style but oddly enough for a Killzone game and the part that surprised me the most is that the trailer claims that you’ll be able to do things silently if you want although it then immediately said that you could use brute force. The trailer also claims that you’ll be able to do things either cleanly with electricity or dirty by stabbing someone in the crotch (no seriously).
The only example of the PS Vita’s touchscreen being used in the Killzone Mercenary Gameplay trailer is for the knife kills where you’ll have to swipe the screen in a certain direction yet besides that there hasn’t been much else and hopefully it will be limited because Killzone shootouts are hectic enough without needing to worry about some touchscreen controls as well. .
Killzone Mercenary will be a PS Vita exclusive title and will be available in the UK come September 18th.
