I should say this is a preview not a review so I will not be using the review bar things. Also if you are reading this after release of Legacy of Romulus then there might be some discrepancies as this is a pre-release version of the huge update.
Star Trek Online has been around for roughly three years and with a rather bumpy start has since then gotten into a very good game (in my opinion) with updates and a prolonged episodic story campaign thing. Cryptic has done a great job on the game in general and should be proud of their game.
The main obvious difference is the massive UI overhaul so everything looks different which I think is hit and miss I myself prefer the old style but I could get used to it and it looks very Romulany. They have a rather cool little thing in the character screen they have the character and their ship above (I know it may sound unimportant but I like it).
The biggest thing though is the new faction the Romulan Empire or at least what is left of it after the loss of their homeworld. The story is one of the strongest out of the factions (I prefer the Federation but I might be bias). We get new ships, a new race, a new cloaking system, new traits and a new piece of equipment the Warp Core (I always wondered why they weren’t already in the game to be honest). I am curious about what will happen to ships that don’t currently have warp cores what they will get.
There is some frame rate issue and one or two glitches but that will be ironed out and the frame rate might just be my internet connection at that moment.
In closing I think it is a good update it doesn’t do anything extravagant or mix up the formula too much but it is still good. The graphics tweaks and the new faction adds a lot of content. I think this is a good way to increase the experience that has lasted over three years have fun.
