The Final Fantasy series graces us with a new trailer featuring a never before seen location and new battles. So let’s dive into the action and do a little rundown of what we have seen of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
It begins with a voice over by a woman explaining how she woke up just in time to witness the end of the world. The camera zooms through a high tech futuristic town and ends at the top of a gold plated clock tower where a man’s voice is heard. The camera turns around a woman’s head as she pulls off purple tinted sunglasses. She has pink her and is dressed in black spandex and her cloak is blowing in the wind. She turns to face the camera and we find out it is the narrator who opened up the trailer. Red lightening flashes behind her as she says, “Only thirteen days to go.” This I can only assume means the game will take place in either 13 days or 13 days until a big event happens.
Then we jump to inside a city with happy music as a man and the pink haired lady fight with swords that can move, and I can’t really explain what they are, but they are cool swords. A second woman with pink hair shows up and begins telling us about an Oracle Drive that is used to record the future. Now, I am starting to see a theme of pink here. She says whatever is seen in the drive will happen in the future.
A group of people donned in purple cloaks and wielding axes all raise them to the sky and a man says something to do with a prophecy as he holds an axe above someone’s head. Then another man dressed in a black cloak, what is it with future everyone in the future wearing cloaks?, walks up and explains how he is going to die and will he see a woman named Sara again.
The first pink haired lady comes back talking to a young boy about how he is going to fight her. He retorts by saying, “Yeah. That’s right. That prophecy. It has to be true.” All while this is going on he points a magic moving sword in her face.
We follow pink haired lady number one as she runs by a beloved green character of the Final Fantasy series. She holds a conversation with a man about the prophecy and how she has come back after being away for 500 years.
Montage of her fighting monsters. Until we finally come to the end cinematic scene where she fights a man with normal blonde hair. She with her magic sword and fancy moving arm shield object and he with a giant frosty white axe. The trailer closes with a classic standoff between the two.
The pink haired chic is of course Lightning. The game will follow her story as she meets her former ally, Snow Villiers. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a completely redone game with an updated look from the previous games.
