Developer Snail Games Announces Online Launch Followed by Boxed Retail Version
Snail Games recently revealed that Age of Wushu, the highly anticipated martial arts-based MMORPG (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game) will be launching online in North America on April 10, 2013, with a full boxed retail version to follow sometime later in April.
Age of Wushu is a colourful, expansive and versatile experience set in ancient China. The story centres on the Wuxia tradition, allowing players to explore the rich history and culture of the tradition and giving them the opportunity to channel their inner Wuxia and set out on a unique quest to master the fabled art of Wushu and fulfill the destiny of their chosen hero.
“Age of Wushu brings an authentic presentation of Chinese martial arts to devoted players, and with its innovative combat, cultivation and offline play, the game creates a unique martial-arts experience,” said Tyler Rawlins of Snail Games, lead content generator of Age of Wushu. “The beta has been a great way to connect with the player community and introduce a real world of Wushu to the Western audience. We received and incorporated an abundance of player feedback during beta and can now announce an official launch date for Age of Wushu.”
The US launch of the game comes off the back of great success and popularity in China, with over 10 million registered players and counting, and Snail Games are surely hoping to match this success in the West. Following the April 10 online launch of the game, a full boxed retail version of the game will be released, on an as-yet unspecified date in late April, for $20 in selected retailers, and will come packaged with more than $75 worth of bonus content.
Age of Wushu is one of the most visually appealing MMOs I’ve personally ever seen. A colourful, striking artistic style, coupled with high-octane martial arts action, leaves me with high hopes for the full release of the game.
