Arabic-speaking fans will soon be able to enjoy episodes from the first two seasons of PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures. 41 Entertainment signed an agreement Tuesday to allow broadcasting of the show on MBC3 and MBC3HD. These television networks serve areas in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), offering educational and entertainment programming for children with both English and Arabic audio options. In addition, MBC3 USA will air episodes of the show to Arabic-speaking American subscribers. Viewers can begin catching episodes near the beginning of 2014.
The show is based on the classic arcade game hero PAC-MAN. It features a unique 3d animation style and has been airing in the United States since June on Disney XD. This IP is incredibly active, as a new video game based on the show is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and 3DS before the end of the year. MBC3’s Senior Channel Manager Ashraf Younis explained why his station wanted to air the show:
PAC-MAN has a long history and legacy. We were excited to hear that this well-known game has now become a TV animation. The quality, look and feel of the animation was behind our decision to acquire it.
41 Entertainment also announced that MBC3’s Licensing and Merchandising branch will handle all licensed products in the station’s viewing areas. Toy Triangle has already been announced as the official distributor of PAC-MAN related toys in the region. Its Vice President Norman MacDonald stated: “We are very excited to distribute the Bandai toy line and perhaps others as we look to build a big program around PAC-MAN in 2014.”
