Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Reveals Gameplay Trailer

Spin-off games are met with mixed opinions from gamers. I never played the original X-Com game on the PC but I thought the reboot first-person shooter game would be a fun compared to other first-person shooters on the market. Similar to how BioShock was an original first-person shooter at its time, and still is. But my opinion is not like the horde that claimed betrayal when they saw the X-Com reboot, and I think a similar trend will happen with the launch of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

The gameplay trailer for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance does give us a bit more back-story on what is going on in this spin-off game. With the fall of the Patriots system – that confusing entity brought up at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 – has led to the development of cyborg technology. Private Military Companies (PMCs) got their hands on cyborg technology and instantly became terrorists, for some reason. We see in the trailer that someone who looks to be wearing Solidus Snake’s mech-suit tortures and kills a person that looks like United States’ President Barrack Obama. Raiden is now part of a peace-keeping PMC group known as ‘Maverick Security’, where he protects innocents with his cybernetic body. As the individual wars in the game continue, Raiden has to look at his past in order to make a better future, I think.

The gameplay for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance seems similar to a brawler game like God of War or Devil May Cry. The gameplay footage still shows some stealth based elements, but Raiden can also climb buildings similar to any protagonist in any Assassin’s Creed game. One feature that seems to differentiate Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance from others is a “slow-time sword” attack. In the stealth portion of the game we see Raiden use this to slice through a pillar and a PMC soldier. Earlier we see Raiden use this attack against a cyborg soldier to possibly deliver critical damage to it.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. Expect to slice your way into this spin-off game early 2013 on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
