Microsoft Doing Away with Online Check-In DRM for Xbox One

After a massive out pour of fans voicing their concerns for the Xbox One’s online DRM requirements and the console falling behind the PS4 in sales, Microsoft has backtracked and taken these requirements away from the next-gen console.  The system will though require a day one update that addresses this, but after this you will be free to play your games offline as long as you please. Along with Microsoft doing away with the online check-in, they have also put a halt to the Xbox Ones regional restriction that was set to be when the console was released., which is big news if you were not in one of the countries that would be unrestricted on release.

With all of this good news that Microsoft has announced, some things have to go when they took away these restrictions. As an effect of these being taken away, the Xbox One will not be able to use the family sharing plan, which was to let you share your library of games with up to 9 other family members. It was definitely a better decision for Microsoft though to have to drop the family sharing than not letting you play any of your games offline.

Overall, it is very good time if you play offline and were interested in getting a Xbox One, but knew you would not be able too. This ultimately puts the PS4 and Xbox One back on the same level in a sense, leaving it up to others features or exclusive games to win the gamers over. While it does do this though, will Microsoft and the Xbox One be able to recover from the hit they have already taken? Will the many gamers that have sided with the PS4 already think about switching over to the Xbox One? Maybe one of the two companies will announce something that will put it above the competitor, winning over more of the fans again. What could Sony or Microsoft announce that would make their system a must buy for you, a certain game, feature, or anything else?
