A Menzoberranzon Renegade and Panther Companion

Neverwinter enthusiasts listen up, because Perfect World Entertainment has announced a series of beta weekend dates and a Founder’s Pack program coming soon. The beta weekends will be held February 8th-10th, March 8th-10th, and March 22nd-24th, and will be open to thousands of players in North America and Europe. The bigger announcement of the day is the Neverwinter Founder’s Pack program. Starting today, players will be able to purchase one of three packs, each with its own tier of rewards.

The three packs are:

The Neverwinter Starter Kit: This kit costs $19.99 and contains an “Adventurer’s Helper Pack” containing six different types of in-game items, a “Small Bag of Holding” which grants twelve extra inventory slots, and the “Amulet of Protection” item.

The Guardian of Neverwinter Pack: This $59.99 pack gives players guaranteed entry to all three beta weekends, a three-day head start to access the Neverwinter open beta, a unique “Gold Moonstone Mask of Regalia” headpiece, a unique armoured horse mount, a unique direwolf companion, and the title of “Founder” in game and in the forums.

The Hero of the North Founder’s Pack: Shown in the above video, this is the biggest pack of the three. For $199.99, players can get guaranteed access to all three beta weekends, a five-day head start to access the betas, a beta weekend friend invite code, VIP access to Moonstone Mask Tavern,  and early access to The Foundry (Neverwinter’s user-generated content creation tool). Also included in this pack is exclusive access to the playable “Menzoberranzan Renegade” race, a unique armored spider mount, a unique panther companion, and the “Founder title in game and in the forums. Perhaps the biggest perk of this pack is the VIP game access, which allows players to “skip the line” and have priority log-in access.

*Writer’s Opinion*

I’ve never really gotten into MMOs. I very briefly played Lord of the Rings Online, City of Heroes, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and, of course, World of Warcraft.

The MMO style of gameplay just never manages to hook me and I always end up getting bored of farming boar tusks fairly quickly. That being said, I could definitely see myself giving Neverwinter a shot by signing up for the free beta weekends; however, paying any amount for the privilege of guaranteed access and some digital goodies is definitely not on my to-do list.

I know that the MMO and Dungeons and Dragons fan-bases can be extremely devoted and that there will be no shortage of Founder’s Pack purchasers, but $200 for a beta is too much for me. What do you think? Will you be signing up for the beta? Will you be paying for one of the Founder’s Packs? Am I a judgmental idiot? Share your thoughts in the comments!
