Konami revealed a new trailer and new details for the upcoming 3DS addition to the Castlevania series, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate. I’m going to hazard a guess that the new game will involve some castles with some shadows and mirrors thrown in for good measure. There will probably be some monsters in there as well. According to Konami, “The epic Nintendo 3DS™ title tells the story of Simon and Trevor Belmont (voiced by Alec Newman and Richard Madden respectively) both descendants of Gabriel Belmont who has now returned as a powerful vampire called Dracula and is threatening to destroy the brotherhood and any who would stand against him.
Gabriel (voiced by Robert Carlyle) was revealed to be the prince of darkness in the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and an all-new prologue level allows users to control Gabriel once again before his transformation.”
So players will get to be a pre-transformation vampire, which is sort of cool. That could have an interesting horror angle, if players know they’re going to turn into monsters no matter what they do as they try to fight against their fate.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will feature combat and exploration gameplay. Thank goodness they aren’t going to try to add cover-based shooting. The game takes place 25 years after the storyline in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate will also be a prequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 which will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC in 2013. That is, if we make it to 2013. There’s that stuff about the Mayan calendar that has a lot of people worried. But if we make it, Castlevania.
