The first handheld title for the Batman Arkham series has recently released a new trailer. Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available for both 3DS and PS Vita. The game features a plot comparable to that of the original Arkham Asylum with Batman being locked in a prison with criminals gone mad. All The trademark villains return for what is shaping up to be another solid entry in one of the best series of this generation.
Blackgate is the handheld edition of Arkham Origins, one of the most promising games of the coming months, which is set to drop in October. Both games appear to be set before the events of the original two Arkham games. This means that all of the characters who died in Arkham City are set for an appearance in this title. One is also left to wonder what role Barbara Gordon and the other sidekicks will play.
The trailer itself offers little beyond a showcase of the main villains such as the Joker and the Black Mask. It is also hinted at that Catwoman may play a significant role in this game. Furthermore, it is apparent that the game will be a 2-D platformer instead of a 3-D action game like the entries in the series. About two thirds of the trailer is some basic cut scenes and the other third is gameplay footage.
The game appears to offer decent graphics but don’t expect anything that rivals the consoles. Batman seems to be sporting a far more simple suit and the environments appear to be slightly less engaging. The plot seems captivating but lacks the depth showcased in the other Arkham games. Honestly, this game appears to be more of a set of grudge matches than anything else. However, if you are a fan of Batman or happen to own one of those two handhelds, I highly recommend checking out the trailer.
