New worlds Trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D

Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance “New Worlds” Trailer.

The Nintendo 3DS has recently has a boost in sales as mentiond here, though in my opinion the library of games for the handheld console is still small. Specifically the lack of RPGs that are on the console. Sure there is Heroes of Ruin, an Action RPG that is meant to be Diablo but on the Nintendo 3DS.

Based on what I heard, Heroes of Ruin sounds like a good game, but there isn’t a bizarre, Anime-inspired JRPG to be seen in the library of the Nintendo 3DS. At least, not until Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance fills in that niche!

I only played Kingdom Hearts II on the PS-2, but back then I don’t know what the story is to the series. In Kingdom Hearts 3D, The androgynous Sora and Riku have to enter the Sleeping Worlds to take a “Mark of Mastery” exam. There they will have to defeat new enemies, make new friends, unlock “Sleeping Keyholes” and retrieve a great power to be deemed true Keyblade Masters. By new friends and enemies, Sora and Riku will have to join up and fight against “Dream Eaters” that inhabit the Sleeping Worlds: Spirits and Nightmares.

I assume the Nightmares are the bad guys in Kingdom Hearts 3D, but the “spirits” can be pokemon-like allies that can be bred and nurtured, which later on teach Sora and Riku new commands and abilities. Players will switch between the two lead character roles through the game’s campaign, exploring new Disney worlds and meeting up with misplaced characters from the Square-Enix character roster – such as the cast from The World Ends with You.

Pardon me for ruining a line from a great film, but: I feel like Kingdom Hearts 3D is not a game the Nintendo 3DS needs to fill its RPG Library, but an RPG it deserves. The idea of the Kingdom Hearts series seems admirable when the first game was launched on the PS-2, but it seems to be going nowhere with the story and keep throwing challenges at the characters to prove their worth. Still, I did have fun with the action RPG hybrid on the PS-2 when I ignore the story, and this one looks to be just as fun for anyone else that is interested in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will put us in the Sleeping Worlds this July 31st.
