Imagine this: you’re sitting on a beach chair, sipping on some coconut on a remote tropical island in South America when, on the horizon, you see a guy with a limp. If you immediately think that he’s a zombie, then you play too many zombie survival games and will be happy to know that 505 Games has announced that it has jumped into the zombie survival game market by backing a new isometric scrolling action title developed by EKO Studios called How to Survive.
The game, which is being developed as an arcade game for Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Windows through Valve’s Steam, is set on a remote archipelago off the coast of South America’s Colombia, where you will be pitted against…the undead.
As many zombie survival stories go, you are involved in an unexplained accident that has left you stranded with the limpers. The game will have a crafting system for tools and weapons, a survival guide and multiple playable characters. The player also must search for food, water, and shelter in order to survive. Pretty standard, right?
The game also will allow for local and online multiplayer coop and challenge modes.
It is set for release this fall, but there is no official word on the exact date.
Writer’s Thoughts
So, do you have what it takes to survive a zombie outbreak? I certainly hope so considering how saturated the zombie game market is now. You would have to be living where the sun doesn’t shine if you think you are not prepared for an apocalypse we’ve seen many times in the past year and some: DayZ, WarZ, Dead Island, The Walking Dead, and of course, Zombie Parkour Running – just for niche’s sake. And on and on and on.
Being a self-described hardcore zombie game lover, it’s tough to get excited about this because it provides nothing new for the genre. I remember being so excited about Valve’s Left 4 Dead, that I wanted to be frozen until its release (hat tip: Cartman). Now whenever I hear of the latest Dead Island or the new “DayZ ripoff,” I shrug. Seeing as this is an arcade game, I assume the developers don’t expect too much fanfare with this title.
