The Nintendo Wii U system and Google team up to create Wii Street U.
This new application will allow players to use their Wii U GamePad controller to travel the world via Wii U. Did I mention it is free?
The Wii U and Google combination of Street U will feature map data and 360° panoramic Street View images. Using the touch screen on the Wii U GamePad, players can type in an exact address and instantly zoom across the virtual world to them. Users can also use the motion sensors inside of the controller to view 360° around any place they choose. Virtual tours are now right at your finger tips. Typing in the address yourself or use Nintendo’s built in guide of recommended places to visit.
The Wii U GamePad allows gamers more unique features than any other controller out on the market. Doubling as a controller and a screen, the Wii U GamePad may also be used separately from the television scree. It also comes with motion controls, an inbuilt camera, microphone and stylus. Basically it is a grown up version of the Nintendo DS or 3DS.
Google Maps has been around for a while now and without it most of us would be lost in this world. The same could be said for Nintendo. Google has developed their own camera systems which have allowed them to create Street View and plug that into many platforms and media. They have also created Trekker which is a wearable backpack that includes a camera system on the top. Since the launch of Street View in 2007, Google has managed to cover the entire globe with it, spanning over 3,000 cities in 47 countries as well as a bit o f Antarctica.
Wii Street U has now crossed the pond and is available as a free download via the Nintendo eShop in Europe.
- The application is free to download for a limited time and will be available only as a paid download afterwards. The application is currently planned to be available for download and use until 31st March 2016.
So grab that Wii U GamePad and prepare for a virtual tour of epic proportions. Just imagine a tour you can sit and eat whatever your heart desires. I am in.
