Outdoors Unleashed: Africa 3D is being released on the 3DS through the Nintendo eShop for $3.99. We all love shooters, and I know this because this is what advertising tells me and advertisements are always right. But are you tired of shooting human beings, aliens, and zombies all of the time? Well, don’t tell any major game publisher that because that will ruin this game they play where they throw piles of money at the same mechanics over and over again in the hope that their Call of Duty/Gears of War/Left 4 Dead clone will make money. I believe the industry term for this is “business.” Anyways, if you are tired of shooting humanoids, why not shoot endangered animals? Well, lucky you, because now you can with Outdoors Unleashed: Africa 3D.
In Outdoors Unleashed: Africa 3D you play a hunter (poacher) who courageously shoots animals with high caliber weapons. And now that it’s available on the 3DS, it feels like the animals are right next to you, pleading for their lives as you gun them down. Isn’t technology wonderful? Players will get to explore 35 environments armed with “your wits, your skills, and an array of high-powered weapons and accessories!” A game would be much more interesting if you were just armed with your wits and skills. I would love to have a chance to try to reason with a wildebeest, debate with a cheetah, or play a game of chess with a lion, even though we all know lions are cheaters and cheetahs rely heavily on straw man arguments.
Players will get to stalk 15 kinds of prey, including what the developer Teyon calls, “the Big 5: Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, and Elephant.” It’s not clear what you do with the animal carcasses after you’ve murdered them. I’d probably give them all to Chuck Testa. That fellow is a taxidermy virtuoso. Happy shooting.
