The sequel to the infinitely popular Plants vs. Zombies sprouts on the Google Play store
PopCap Games have launched Plants vs. Zombies 2 for Android devices worldwide. The game has previously been widely popular on the iOS operating system, and this looks sure to continue now the potential install base is so much larger.
PopCap Games and the development for team seem suitably excited about the launch of the title on Android systems, with Franchise Business Director, Tony Leamer, saying:
“With the arrival of Plants vs. Zombies 2 on Android, we’re effectively reaching a huge new audience of mobile players who have been eagerly awaiting the game. We’re particularly pleased that the Android iteration of the game has all the great features and functionality found in other mobile editions.”
The game takes the concept of the previous game a step further, and transports the player to wider geographical and chronological locations, offering fully customised zombies for each situation, including pyramid-adorned zombies in the Ancient Egypt area. The game utilised the same basic system, but adds even more plants, zombies and challenges, as well as adding a new ‘plant food’ feature, which can give a plant a boost. For example, a peashooter given plant food will fire like a machine gun for a few seconds. Additions like this add an even more strategic element to the gameplay, and can help to get out of some of those really tight spots!
The game adopts a free-to-play model that differs from the previous game, by allowing users to install and play the game entirely for free, while offering incentives and bonuses if players are willing to hand over money to do so. Nonetheless, PopCap have assured gamers that it is possible to fully complete the title without ever having to fork out cash to do so.
The game features 60 levels at launch, alongside dozens on new zombies, plants and challenges. PopCap have also promised regular updates, with new content, levels and features being added to the title over time for all systems, including dozens of new levels.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 is available right now for iOS and Android systems, from their respective App Stores, for free.
