Plants vs Zombies Update Released

Plants vs Zombies Update Released

PopCap has announced an update to their widely played Plants vs Zombies. I know, I know, this is the update we’ve all been waiting for. There really isn’t enough in terms of zombie content these days, so I’m glad to see the industry paying attention to this criminally underserved market. I mean, yeah, there’s that TV show, and Left 4 Dead, and Resident Evil, and that new game on XBLA, and all of those movies, but those things don’t get at what’s important about zombies.

I want to know what would happen if a bunch of sentient plants fought against waves and waves of zombies on a lawn. As soon as someone makes a book trilogy about an awkward and irritating person who falls in love with a stoic zombie who is also awkward and irritating, then I’ll be satisfied. Also, there has to be a love triangle where the horrible main character is being fought over by a clan of zombies and a clan of mummies. That would be a great fight.

The zombies would have a tactical advantage over the mummies because they could grab one of those bandages they wear and give it a sharp tug and it would be over, but mummies are slightly faster than zombies in terms of average shambling speed.

The update includes new achievements, including one called “Hammer Time,” which pretty clearly dates the staff at PopCap to around 36. I can’t wait until games start dropping references to songs from the 90’s and 2000’s. Someday, there had better be an achievement called “Whatta Man,” or I will be disappointed. There are also five new levels and a new form of endless mode called “Last Stand Endless mode.” Players can also purchase a Mallet Pack to beat zombies with, which sounds lovely.
