The popular MMO game engine service from Idea Fabrik, HeroCloud, will now take advantage of the monetization service from PlaySpan.
What technical feature connects an early version of The Elder Scrolls: Online with Star Wars: The Old Republic? The answer to that question is the HeroEngine, owned by Idea Fabrik which is specifically designed to make MMO-style games in a 3D world. The HeroEngine has an alternative service called "HeroCloud," which gives developers access to the source code so long as they pay $99 a year, plus royalty. Idea Fabrik is making the alternative HeroCloud look more appealing to developers by connecting PlaySpan's UltimatePay to the service, opening up possible microtransaction and/or subscription services to developers of the game engine.
Originally if developers working through HeroCloud wanted to integrate microtransaction (i.e. cash shop) services in their game, they would have to exit the game and buy the in-game currency. This could lead to several accounting nightmares if developers are not careful, such as banks freezing their merchant accounts or spending money to check the credentials of a credit card. What is even worse is players to these games could be lead to another Web site promising in-game currency real cheap, only to be scammed by con-artists.
But PlaySpan's UltimatePay should eradicate most of these issues with HeroCloud. UltimatePay provides over a hundred global payment methods in 180 countries. UltimatePay will also provide services to developers such as risk management, fraud prevention, and analytics tools to help increase conversion and user satisfaction.
So if you are playing a game that uses the HeroCloud game engine, you will have to worry less about con-artists getting into your account or whether the developer might screw up with your account information. Other features for HeroCloud will remain the same: Full access to HeroEngine (and the source code) for $99 per year (plus royalty); Online creation tools where one developer could create the inside of the house while seeing another developer create the lawn in real-time; and compatible with other third-party programs like PhysX, 3D Studio Max and Maya.
