Sony Computer Entertainment UK has announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation 3 have surpassed 5 million units in the UK alone.
The PS3’s success looks to continue as the Super-Slim PS3 with 12GB of in board flash memory, is released in stores tomorrow. The console has the smallest memory and is the cheapest from Sony so far. The 12GB console has the option to attach an external hard drive. The Super Slim PS3 is available as 500GB or 12GB model which can now be used for a variety of purposes including watching movies, TV, listening to music and obviously gaming.
Commenting on the UK sales landmark, Fergal Gara, Sony’s Vice President and Managing Director in the UK and Ireland said:
“This is another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something I’m incredibly proud of. I’d like to thank all our consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for helping us achieve this figure. I look forward to continued success.”
The PlayStation 3 was first brought to the UK & Europe in 2007, offering gaming and entertainment options to enthusiasts. The console boasted unparalleled power and cutting edge technology as it was the only console to double as a high definition Blu-Ray player with its Blu-Ray drive. The consoles achievement coincides with the launch of the recently smaller and lighter PS3 which differs greatly from the very first 60GB model.
The PlayStation 3 looks to offer a line-up for everyone this Christmas. The Wonderbook: Book of Spells will feature new original writing from J.K. Rowling this year. A number of best sellers are also due for release these include: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin’s Creed III, FIFA 13, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
