Familiar monsters and loot from the Ragnarok MMORPG will be invading the world of Dragon Saga for players to kill and take.
Cross-overs in nerd culture are nothing new. Back on the Super NES I remember cross-over games like Aliens vs. Predator or Robocop vs. Terminator. There were even some odd cross-overs like when Marvel's The Punisher shows up in an Archie comic. However I don't think there ever has been a cross-over MMORPG before, which is the only way I can describe the new update for Gravity Interactive's Dragon Saga MMORPG. It might not be a great cross-over, so no cute characters from Dragon Saga meeting up with other murderers from Marvel's universe like Carnage. But instead the heroes of Dragon Saga will have to help the world of Ragnarok in the new update.
The set up for this update in Dragon Saga states that "WarpPortals" have opened up around the world, connecting Dragon Saga with the world from Ragnarok. An employee from Kafra, Telling, is looking for heroes in Dragon Saga to save her home town of Geffen. Players can then move through these WarpPortals to new locations and find the new content for Dragon Saga.
In short, the update for Dragon Saga will add new quests, items and dungeons, but a lot of it will be built on the theme established in Ragnarok. Each character could find armor fitting the aesthetic of Ragnarok in these new dungeons, all created in 3D. Familiar monsters will also be fully rendered in 3D as well, such as those slimes with the 'bunny'-like smile shown in the trailer.
Maybe Dragon Saga isn't the first MMORPG that completes the ritual of having cross-overs, since Blizzard did this with the cross-over of Three Vikings in World of Warcraft. However that is with a single-player puzzle-platformer game making a guest appearance in an MMORPG. But who knows what other MMORPG cross-overs might come from this idea Gravity Interactive has. Guild Wars vs. World of Warcraft? DC Universe vs. Marvel? Star Wars vs. Star Trek?
