Rumor: iPhone 5 Release September 21

An anonymous source close to a major UK mobile carrier claims that the iPhone 5 will release September 21 in stores throughout the UK. Pre-orders may be available on September 14. There are additional pieces of information that appear to confirm this rumor. For example, FedEx is expecting a “surge in volume” between September 21-24. Of course, it could simply be that this is the time when college students get especially lonely, so their mothers send them cookies and clean underwear, but suspicions are further roused by the fact that AT&T and Verizon stores have prohibited employees from taking days off during the September 21-24 period.

What will the new iPhone have? As far as I can tell, there will be a “5” next to the word “iPhone,” and some people are really into having the latest gadget. Not me though. My computer is 15 years old, so it takes me about an hour to watch a clip of a cat in a box, but when the clip finally loads I really enjoy it.

I see computers as a passing fad, and I know as soon as I get a new one, we’ll all be using holograms or Google’s scary-looking glasses. There had better be hoverboards in the future, or I will be extremely disappointed. We’ve got three years to engineer hoverboard technology according to Back to the Future 2, so get on that scientists.

No, I don’t want a cure to a disease or a renewable energy source, I just want my hoverboard. Make it happen. In addition to engineering amazing new technology that is obsolete in a year, Apple is also in talks to acquire AuthenTec, a company that scans fingerprints. The two companies have been in talks about a merger for about a year, so a fingerprint scanning feature may be incorporated into the rumored iPhone 5. Hey Apple, how about you acquire Nintendo so I can play Pokemon on my iPad? Deal?
