Mommy’s Best Games have released their first of four developer diaries for Serious Sam Double D XXL and it looks like there will be lots of guns, gun stacking, and gun customization:
Serious Sam Double D XXL is the Xbox Live Arcade version of 2011’s 2D shoot-‘em-up for PC. While the first developer diary only shows a few of the new guns and custom parts, some other new features have been announced by Mommy’s Best Games, such as:
Giant, one-eyed, saw-handed, triple-barreled -gun holding Egyptian gorilla? Check!
Two Player Local Co-Op: Now a friend can join in and play as Sam’s partner, Huff.
Gunstacker Upgrades: In addition to the original game’s substantial arsenal, 30 new guns will be added which can be customized, mixed and matched using the Gunstacker. These new weapons include killer-bee firing shotguns, lasers, and cannons.
New Missions: Both the campaign and challenge levels will receive new content, including levels which feature rides like a dynamite-power unicycle and a missile-loaded pterosaur.
New and Upgraded Enemies: The Torcher Kitty, Explosion Eater, and Armored Gnaar are added to Sam’s enemy list.
Anybody who missed the PC version or just wants more Sam can get Serious Sam Double D XXL February 20th on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points.

I have nothing but respect for developers who spend their time meticulously crafting games to achieve a sense of absolute realism and believability. Those types of games can be works of art which deserve nothing but the highest praise. Sometimes though, I just want an over-the-top insane game that makes no logical sense whatsoever. Serious Sam Double D XXL is going to let me stack up to six guns on top of one another and fire them all at the same time.
If I so choose, those can all be shotguns….shotguns that fire bees. I haven’t tried the PC version of the game, but This kind of creative disregard for all things logical and embrace for all things awesome is very refreshing, and I for one hope that this game lives up to my very high expectations.
