Cliffhanger Productions, the Australian based company that developed Shadowrun, is looking for support from its fans for their latest project Shadowrun Online. After launching a Kickstarter campaign, the team has already raised over $70 thousand to fund their ambitious project.
Unlike Shadow Returns before it, which focused more on offering players an enriching single-player experience, Shadowrun Online takes a few ideas from the tabletop playbook, allowing players to explore Shadowrun’s world with their friends. Combat is strategic and turn-based, but retains fluidity.
To keep the vision that Cliffhanger Productions had for Shadowrun Online, they are looking towards their gaming community for help. By launching their Kickstarter, Cliffhanger is hoping to get their fans involved like never before. As stated by Jan Wagner, the Managing Director of Cliffhanger Productions, the entire idea of the game has the players at its heart. He hopes to bring the back to the people that play them.
To further turn their visions into reality, Cliffhanger Productions is also teaming up with Catalyst Game Labs, Hare Brained Schemes, and previous Shadowrun writers to produce and put together different story elements. Jason Hardy, the Shadowrun Line Developer for the tabletop idea, stressed the importance of utilizing the different Shadowrun products. Generally, he is pleased at how different ideas are being blended together to form an intriguing story that the players would surely enjoy.
Shadowrun Online will be available for browsers for both the PC and Mac. Players will also be able to enjoy the experiences the game has to offer on Android Tablets and iPads. The game also uses the Unity3D engine to create amazing graphics.
Players will be able to explore the world alone or with a handful of friends, doing a variety of missions such as stealing valuable items from a warehouse infested with ghouls and ruining to secret projects in research labs. Players will also utilize combat, stealth, and strategy as they navigate across the beautifully crafted 3D world.
