Borderlands 2, a sequel to the 2009 breakout hit has released to critical acclaim on September 18, and has shipped an impressive 5 Million Units Worldwide.

Borderlands 2 is now one of the most successful video games of the year, with more mayhem and more guns than ever on Pandora. With the recent release of the new Mechromancer class, alongside the first add-on campaign, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty. Borderlands 2 can only gain in momentum.
Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K had this to say about the runaway success of Borderlands 2:
“We’re thrilled with the momentum of Borderlands 2 and it’s really a testament to all the hard work that the team at 2K and Gearbox put in to make this a must play game.”
Earlier this month Borderlands 2 released a fifth playable character class, Gaige the Mecromancer and the first of their add-on campaigns, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty. This can be downloaded by anyone that purchased a Season Pass for the game or can also be bought seperately for $9.99.
The Season Pass includes all add-on campaign content that would normally retail at $39.96, but players can guarantee themselves some add-on campaigns for only $29.99 on PS3/PC or for 2400 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360.
Borderlands 2 released to a positive response from gamers and reviewers alike, netting the game an average metacritic score of 90, and even achieving a perfect 5 out of 5 from G4TV. Randy Pitchford,  president of Gearbox Software was happy with the success of Borderlands 2, saying:
“The overwhelmingly positive response to Borderlands 2 from our fans has been incredible.Players have embraced Borderlands 2 as their next hobby with over 50 million interactions with Claptrap in the central town of Sanctuary and 12,000 real world years’ worth of time spent shooting and looting their way through Pandora!”
The success of Borderlands 2 has even led to a top-down tactical mobile game, named Borderlands Legends, which is now available from the ITunes App Store for $4.99, or on one of your other favourite iOS devices for $6.99.
