Indie Developer 17 Bit has announced that Skulls of the Shogun will be released world wide January 30th, 2013 and will be at a discounted price for a limited time on Windows 8, Windows Surface and Windows Phone. The Windows 8 and Windows Surface version are set to launch at $9.99 (reduced from $14.99) via the Microsoft Store. Accompanied by the Windows Phone version set to launch at a credible $4.99 (reduced from $6.99) via the Windows Phone Marketplace.
Jake Kazdal Founder and CEO of 17 Bit revealed that it was the community that influenced this world wide discounted release. “We’ve heard from the community that they want to get Skulls of the Shogun not only on their Xbox 360, but on all of their Microsoft devices. By discounting the Windows 8, Windows Surface, and Windows Phone versions of Skulls, we hope everyone can dive into the Skulls Anywhere asynchronous single-player and multiplayer gameplay.”
Skulls of the Shogun is perhaps the feather in the cap of 17 Bit who are famous for taking old school 2D gameplay and remixing it with current Gen visuals and mechanics. This is no more truly evident than in Skulls. Players are washed up on the shores of the Afterlife, there they meet and join forces with vibrant ghost-samurai warriors, magical animal monks and moustachioed samurai generals all in an epic quest to capture the Skulls of the Shogun.
Already boasting an impressive 15 hour single player campaign Skulls also features up to four player local and online multiplayer battles. As if that already didn’t warrant the new discounted price, now for the first time players will be able to challenge their friends and take their single player campaigns on the road asynchronously- whether they’re playing on Xbox 360, Windows 8, Surface or Windows Phone. Called Skulls Anywhere, this cross-platform gameplay is a first for Microsoft devices and will be available for launch on all four platforms.
