Activision have promised that Skylanders Giants, is bigger and better than it’s predecessor in every way. The sequel to best-selling title Skylanders: Spyros Adventure is due for release on October 19th in Europe and October 21st in America. Skylanders Giants will feature much larger Skylanders and a host of new gameplay mechanics.
Skylanders Giants is set to build upon the success of its predecessor by enhancing the magic of bringing toys to life in an exciting virtual gaming experience. Skylanders Giants will feature over 40 characters, which are led by eight Giant Skylanders who are twice the size of their companions both physically and virtually. The giants in the game each have new powers and abilities to rival their size. Skylanders Giants has been described as being all about big. The game includes big creatures, worlds and even bigger ideas.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing spoke about the series success commenting:
“It’s really gratifying that in less than a year, we’ve seen Skylanders go from being an intriguing untested new IP to becoming one of the hottest kids franchises in the world which has been universally acclaimed by parents, kids and critics alike." … “Skylanders is more than just a new piece of interactive entertainment. It is genuinely new kind of thinking in interactive entertainment.”
Skylanders Giants will also introduce new Light Core Skylanders that glow when near Portals of Power. The game will feature an all new “Wow Pow” upgrade power, as well as giving players the choice to choose more than one upgrade path. Fans of ther series will also be able to import their characters and their progress from the first game as the figures and save files are 100% backwards compatible with Skylanders Giants.
Skylanders Giants will be released for the Nintendo Wii, 3DS, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The game will be released on the 19th and 21st October in Europe and America respectively.
The Skylanders figures will vary in price from from smaller figures costing £10.00, to giant figures costing £14.99. The Light Core models will also be more expensive than standard figurines. A starter pack will be available upon release for all systems.
The game will also be ported to the Wii U as one of the 51 launch window titles for the console. The Wii U version will take advantage of the system’s motion and touchscreen controls. 3DS owners will experience a new adventure exclusive to their version of the game. The storyline features fan favourites Flynn, Hugo, Cali and the villainous Captain Frightbeard.
