Forge and Master New Weapons in an All-New Solo Adventure SOULCALIBUR Free-to-Play Title
Namco Bandai Games Europe’s popular fighting franchise SoulCalibur is set to return this winter with a surprising new detail. A distinct emphasis will be placed on the solo-player format, with multiplayer battles not even an option for fans of the series. Additionally, SoulCalibur Lost Swords will be released as a free-to-play title for the first time in the weapon-based fighter’s history.
Whilst retaining the award winning and widely beloved 3D weapons engine, Namco Bandai have focused the development of Lost Swords around an entirely new progression system. This new feature will allow players to customise both their looted and forged weapons with imbued strengths and weaknesses of elements, such as wind and fire. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that players will have access to characters such as Mitsurugi, Seigfried and Sophitia, who return from SoulCalibur 5.
Whilst the lack of a multiplayer option seems like an odd choice, and may be an issue for longtime devotees to the series, Senior Vice President of Namco Bandai Oliver Comte does not share these worries.
“The SoulCalibur series has long been known for its substantial single-player modes over the past 14 years. SoulCalibur Lost Swords allows the development team to expand the solo-fighting game concept further than it has ever gone before with new loot-drop gameplay, elemental-based weapons, and deep character customization options that the series is known for.”
Lost Swords will be available to play for free on PlayStation 3 this winter in both Europe and Australasia. For more information on the SoulCalibur franchise visit the facebook page or check out Namco Bandai’s website.
