Scientific Research Uses Starcraft II to Find Life

Starcraft II is being used to decipher if the human race can carry on somewhere in the great vastness of space.

Two scientist are focusing on Starcraft II to better understand the scientific method. By using the outcome of online player matches these research astronomers are trying to come up with enough data to figure out if the human race can colonize elsewhere in the galaxy.

Using Blizzard Entertainments Starcraft II as a focal point the scientific project hopes to bring more public understanding to the scientific method. They are trying to translate parameters from the Starcraft universe and bring them into a numerical simulation. I am no physicist but to me it sounds like they are attempting to compare the universe Blizzard has created with our own actual universe to see if life exists or can exist elsewhere in the cosmos.

The Starcraft universe evidently holds similarities to our own. In the gaming world three alien races are fighting for control over the region of space called the Koprulu Sector. In the real world that same part of space is located near the Milky Way.

The research went on to find that between the three alien races they have found out which one would obtain control of the Koprulu Sector. Using this numerical simulation, the scientific team discovered that between the human race called “Terran Dominion”, the insect-like “Zerg”, and the technological “Protoss”. The one who would come out victorious were the “Terran Dominion.” However, they went on to say that with the continual shift of power inside of Starcraft II, the outcome could prove different later on.

For now though, the human race shall remain the champions of a fictitious galaxy and defend it from all evil that stand in our way!
