Teaser Trailer For Wargame: AirLand Battle Flies Off

A teaser trailer for Wargame: AirLand Battle shows off the mighty battle of helicopters, jets, and tanks fighting against each other.

Real Time Strategy games might be a niche genre to some gamers. Oh I’m sure I’m going to be criticized by that comment from PC gamers wanting to tell me what their favorite RTS game is. But the keyword in that sentence is “PC Gamers,” as in the RTS genre has only found success on the PC so far with little interest from publishers and developers to make them. But there are still a few being made here and there, such as the sequel to Wargame: European Escalation from Eugen Systems: Wargame: AirLand Battle.

You will take control of NATO and Warsaw Pact Troops between 1970s and 1980s in Wargame: AirLand Battle. War rages across Northern Europe, specifically in Scandinavia. You might not see it from the trailer (unless you do live in Scandinavia), but the IRISZOOM Engine is meant to replicate ‘impressive’ topography of areas via satellite maps. So the region of Scandinavia should be faithfully recreated in the game.

Wargame: AirLand Battle will let you control any military resources from the Cold War Era. Sure you get a series of tanks to control, but there is a reason why ‘AirLand’ is part of the sub-title. You get a large number of planes to move around in the game, from fighters to bombers and electronic warfare planes. The original eight nations return from the previous installment of Wargame: AirLand Battle, but now there are four new nations with their library of vehicles to pick from. So in total, you should have over 750 military vehicles loaded with deadly weapons to pick from. Combine this with a new “Urban Combat Interface” and it should allow for battles within city limits.

There will be a multiplayer and solo campaign provided in Wargame: AirLand Battle. In the solo campaign players will have to guide various squads into reinforcing locations or provide strategic support. No word on what kind of feature is provided in multiplayer, but I presume your standard mechanics from other RTS games might be in effect here. For both the solo campaign and multiplayer, players can customize their army with a ‘deck’ system, which is now being upgraded using an integrated ‘viewer.’

Wargames: AirLand Battle is scheduled for release in 2013. For more information, visit Focus Home Interactive’s Web site.
