2K and 2K Marin announced that they do have plans for downloadable content after launch for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified that will provide the game with more content proceeding its August 23, 2013 release date ( August 20, 2013 if you reside in the US. ). These story driven expansions will explain more about the origin of the XCOM organization, with them being available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC. The first DLC pack released will be an exclusive for players on the Xbox 360. President of 2K, Christoph Hartmann had this to say about the games DLC,
We take great pride in our track record of providing high-quality post-release content for our games. We will continue to expand the XCOM universe by telling original stories set in the paranoia-drenched Cold War era of The Bureau.
Morgan Gray, the development director over at 2K Marin, explained how the DLC would be an exciting expansion for the game,
The alternate 1962 universe that we’ve created for The Bureau is vast and there are many more stories to tell about the early days of XCOM. We’re excited that our stories will provide a new perspective on the war effort, much like how our critically acclaimed Minerva’s Den DLC for Bioshock 2 allowed us to present a unique perspective of Rapture.
If you will, or have already pre-ordered The Bureau through participating retailers then you will receive the special side-mission named “Codebreakers”. In this special mission, a secret government communications facility that is suppose to intercept and decode enemy transmissions has gone silent, giving you the task of changing the paths of this secret war by helping bringing the facility back online and decrypt the mysterious code will eliminating any hostile threats.
With the special Codebreakers side-mission, those who pre-order through GAME will also receive the Light Plasma Pistol as a exclusive in-game item. This pistol will fire bolts of plasma and a huge improved fire rate, which will definitely give players an extra boost at the start of the game. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be available on August 23, 2013 around the world.
