The Guardian – The Official London Games Festival Media Partner

The London Games Festival is close to starting this year after not appearing in 2011, breaking the 6 year cycle, but promises to be a bigger event this year.

I’m sure most if not all of you (at least in the UK) have heard of The Guardian newspaper… Yes?
They were named Newspaper of the Year and the British Press Awards in 2011, and Medium of the Year 2011 by Campaign magazine.

Ukie, the organiser of this year’s London Games Festival, have announced that The Guardian will be the events first ever official media partner, and will see The Guardian host events in the festival, and supply editorial support throughout the event.

They will be involved right from the get go, on the launch night on September 27th 2012.

On Saturday October 13th, they will host “The Guardian Presents: How to code the Raspberry Pi”.
The Raspberry Pi is a clever piece of kit and will give an exclusive hands-on session with the tech.
It is a credit card sized computer that allows for inputs and outputs, like a keyboard, and connection to a TV to see what it is displaying.
Its main purpose? To teach kids all over the world the fundaments of programming, and get them inspired. It also does most things that a desktop PC is capable of considering its size, including letting you work on spreadsheets, do some word-processing, play games, and even plays high definition content.
It will highlight the Nexgen Skills Campaign by Ukie.

3 more events are scheduled but no dates have yet been given;
“The Guardian Presents: How your players read” which will be held at King’s Cross offices, and “The Guardian Presents: So You Want To Be a Games Journalist?”.

Richard Thompson, strategic marketing partnerships manager, Guardian News & Media Limited says:

“London Games Festival is a perfect event for us – ambitious, innovative and forward-thinking, attracting exactly the right sort of audience for The Guardian. We are delighted to be so tightly integrated with this year’s festival, and look forward to helping it reach an even bigger audience than before.”

“We are absolutely thrilled that The Guardian will be lending its support to this year’s London Games Festival,”

says Kirsty Payne, festival director.

“This is far more than a merging of logos – the events being curated by The Guardian are central to the festival, offering both consumers and businesses real value. We’re excited by the possibilities of this partnership and we’re certain it will help make this year’s London Games Festival the best yet.”

The London Games Festival will take place this year between September 27th, and October 28th at venues all across London.
