Before I can even start this article about the latest new trailer for The Last of Us I have to mention that unless you own a PS3 you shouldn’t be reading this because annoyingly The Last of Us is a PS3 exclusive by Naughty Dog and while I can’t help but wonder why the hell do console exclusives still exist but that’s a topic for another time.
In the Last of Us the world has been infected by you guessed it a plague of zombies where all of the survivors are killing each other for food, weapons etc. The plot will revolve around Joel who is harden survivors and Ellie, a teenage girl who is apparently wise beyond her years who are both trying to get across the United States and must survive against the zombies and other people. The game will have a character driven story so in that aspect anyway it’s sort of like The Walking Dead games and the trailer hints that Joel has a tragic past and that Joel and Ellie don’t exactly get along. The plot at least at the start seems to involve Joel having to smuggle cargo.
The trailer shows that you’ll be visiting a variety of locations ranging from cities to forests and the graphics are Naughty Dogs usual style and by that I mean it looks a lot like Uncharted 3. The gameplay plans to blend survival with action as you’ll hopefully have to use everything you can find to deal with what comes your way and that running can be an option if you don’t want to waste ammo. Also since one of the two characters is a teenager it should make that fact that she will have to kill as implied in the trailer have an impact on her unlike say Faith from Mirror’s Edge who killed innocent cops who were only doing their job.
It was also revealed on the Playstation Blog that people who pre-order The Last of Us will have two offers. The first pack is called Sight and Sounds Pack which comes with a CD with the offical soundtrack, a dynamic theme featuring the cover art and also 2 PSN avatars called Winter Joel and Winter Ellie so all you’ll want from this pack is the soundtrack. The second pack which you can only get at GameStop is called Survival Pack which will have multiplayer boosts because this game will have multiplayer for some reason. The boosts include bonus experience, melee damage boost and extra in-game cash and customizable items. You’ll also get two extra skins for both characters for after you clear the game so out of the two packs the second one is the most useful to players but will also be annoying for players who didn’t buy it trying to play multiplayer.
The Last of Us will be released May 7th 2013 and it’s shaping up to be one of 2013’s more unique games with a interesting plot but I’ll keep my opinion to myself til more gameplay is shown but till then here’s the trailer.
